When Bro Marketing Slides Into Your DMs

Gen X women solopreneurs are done with bro marketing. This post calls out tired LinkedIn pitches and explains how Robusta offers grounded, intentional growth without the pressure-cooker nonsense of “scale at all costs.”

The Message That Sparked It

The other day on LinkedIn, I got one of those messages every Gen X woman business owner has seen at least once. The kind that makes your coffee go cold because you’re too busy rolling your eyes.

The message read:

“We build peer groups for coaches in the Midwest ready to scale without burning out. Worth connecting?”

My actual response was short, honest, and probably funnier than it had any right to be:

“Bahahahaha. That is some seriously bro marketing. Dude. I am building a community not a peer group. We aren’t scaling, we are growing. We aren’t burning out because we understand how to self-care. I am not your ICA.”

Why This Language Misses the Mark

Gen X women who run businesses don’t sit around waiting for a guy they’ve never met to swoop in and tell them how to “scale.”

Most of us have lived through enough life, loss, reinvention, detours, and rebuilds to know exactly what kind of support we need and what kind we’ll never tolerate again.

What Gen X Women Actually Want

There’s no need to be shoved into a peer group. We need to belong to a community.

There’s no need to “scale harder.” We need to grow intentionally.

We already know the cost of burnout, and we choose differently now.

How Robusta Does It Differently

That’s why I built Robusta.

Robusta isn’t another mastermind with a fancy title and a founder who thinks he’s discovered business fire. It’s a grounded, real, quietly powerful community designed for Gen X women solopreneurs who are rebuilding confidence, shedding the noise, and choosing to grow on their own terms.

Inside Robusta, the conversations sound nothing like that DM.
These are women who get it. Women who’ve lived enough to know that business growth means personal growth. Women who know how to build or rebuild a business without sacrificing their health, their relationships, or their sanity. And, women who value depth over hype and clarity over buzzwords.

The Real Invitation

So when a random message appears using the same tired language marketers have been selling to women for decades, the only reasonable reaction is a laugh. Because we already know better. We’ve been building better. And we’re nowhere near done.

If you want a place where your wisdom is respected, your experience is an asset, and your growth is supported without the pressure-cooker energy of “scale or die,” come join us.
