Hello, October! Let’s make a plan.

It’s time for the October Ultimate Blog Challenge and Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Spread the Love

October means I have 2 important items on my agenda:

  • Honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month by sharing my personal story.
  • Complete 31 days of the October Ultimate Blog Challenge (UBC)

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October 2025 marks my 11th Pinktober as a patient.

In the early years, I found myself disgusted by the pink-washing of breast cancer by corporations capitalizing on the suffering of the diagnosed.

Pink cleaning supplies, pink beverages, even pink lunch meat packaging seemed to be everywhere.

But pink-washing seems to have paid off, as breast cancer death rates have dropped by 44% since the late 1980s.

Millions of lives have been saved, including mine.

And for that, I am grateful.

Blog Plan for the Month

I am thrilled that many of my Robusta cohort are joining me for the October Ultimate Blog Challenge.

What’s the challenge, you ask? Blog everyday, and support other bloggers with comments and shares.

I’ve been participating for many years.

Each time I participate in the challenge I find myself doubling down on bringing valuable content for you, dear reader.

I have a rough blog post plan for this UBC:

  • Resurrect as many breast cancer related stories as possible from the Internet Archive of my hacked former website.
  • Share 4 amazing interviews with breast cancer thrivers and wellness experts on Gratitude Geek podcast.
  • Compile and share expert commentary from past podcast guests for women business owners faced with breast cancer or any life-altering diagnosis

You should not be doing this alone.

The Gratitude Geek Lab is where Gen X women solopreneurs share strategies, celebrate wins, and hold each other accountable. Explorer membership is free. Sponsor members get their name in every episode’s show notes — which is itself a visibility strategy worth thinking about.

Are you here from UBC? I can’t wait to read what you’ve been up to! Say hello in the comments.

Stay Groovy!

  1. Kandas, honestly so glad you’re speaking on the pink washing and the awareness needed for breast cancer survivors and people in recovery. This diagnosis impacts so many people, and yet all we see in the mainstream are the pink ribbons and save the tatas stickers. While all awareness is good around this, it’s very empowering to see real conversations and survivors living out loud. Thank you!

    1. The pink washing is much better now but for a few years it was just gross.

  2. I like your well defined plan for your posts and podcasts – and love the term, ‘Thrivers’ I’m going to share it with our women’s spirituality book group, Sister Circle, as several are Thrivers (and one on particular will LOVE the term!!)

I’m here from UBC, and am preparing for the SoulCollage Facilitator training in January! I created my Teacher card this morning, in a coaching session with my first SC teacher- and the images had some great messages!
    Come visit me!

    1. I can’t take credit for the term thriver but that’s what many of us who receive the dreaded metastatic diagnosis prefer over survivor.

  3. You are so inspiring! Looking forward to reading all your stories this month. Thank you!

    1. So glad to see you in this challenge, Wendy!

  4. Awesome plan Kandas and I’m so glad to be joining you on this challenge.

    1. Looking forward to reading your stories!

  5. Happy to see you back Kandas and looking forward to your blog post plan. I don’t have a plan as of yet, just to try to stay on track this month!

  6. I love this! Glad you are able to resurrect the posts from your hacked site especially since I know you had a lot of content there.

I have often thought about the pink washing. I even participated in walks when it was very prevalent. I know many thrivers, survivors and a few who lost their battle with breast cancer. Please continue to share your story.

I look forward to seeing your posts throughout the UBC.
