Yeti GX Honest Review

As a podcaster, audio quality is vital for engaging listeners. Recently, I had the chance to test the Yeti GX dynamic microphone by Logitech as through my partnership with Influenster.

While the Yeti GX is marketed as a versatile mic suitable for podcasting and gaming, I decided to compare it to my trusty Samson Q2U, the microphone I use for all my podcasts and tutorials.

The Yeti GX has a sleek design, sturdy base, and fun aesthetic features like customizable lights. It’s compact and easy to use, especially for gamers who need a plug-and-play mic for streaming on platforms like Twitch.

However, sound quality is where it falls short. Even when placed close to my mouth, the audio had a “tin can” quality—thin and lacking the depth and clarity essential for podcasting.

Influenster is a free product discovery platform where users can review, explore, and share opinions on a wide range of products, from beauty to tech. Members can qualify for VoxBoxes—curated boxes of free products to test and review in exchange for honest feedback.

In contrast, the Samson Q2U delivers crisp, professional-grade audio that elevates podcast recordings. It’s my go-to mic for a reason—it’s versatile, reliable, and provides consistently clean sound whether I’m recording tutorials or interviewing guests.

If you’re a podcaster or creator who values high-quality audio, the Samson Q2U is the better investment. However, if you’re a gamer looking for a convenient mic to sit on your desk, the Yeti GX might be a good fit.

Great sound makes all the difference in podcasting, so choose a microphone that amplifies your voice and message with clarity. For me, the Samson Q2U wins every time.

  1. Great review! I appreciate the honest comparison between the Yeti GX and the Samson Q2U. It’s always helpful to hear how gear stacks up in real-world use, especially from someone with experience in podcasting.

  2. Awesome review! Been thinking about podcasting, but I’m going to put it on hold for a while. I’ve put the Samsung in my “save later” list on Amazon.

    1. Make sure it’s a Samson not a Samsung!! 🙂

  3. LOL – WIth regards to the Yeti GX, “However, sound quality is where it falls short.”

That is good enough of a statement for me to stay away from it!

I have been using an Audio Technica mic for several years now, and I love it. However, I know that everything must come to an end, so when it is time, (and it is still relevant), I will check out getting the Samson.

    Thanks, Kandas!

    1. Different mics for different reasons. For podcasting, dynamic mics like the Q2U are best. Also, your timber will be different on different devices. So, if you can go to a music store and test out different options, do so!
