Why “Radical Remission”?
Over a decade ago I was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer, that later metastasized to my lungs. Early on in this journey, I was gifted the book Radical Remission: Surviving Cancer Against All Odds by Kelly A. Turner, Ph.D. Reading that book transformed my mindset and launched my coaching career.
When I joined Liz Scully on her podcast, The Biz Book Broadcast, to discuss Radical Remission: Surviving Cancer Against All Odds, I didn’t expect the conversation to lead to a personal and profound realization. But that’s the beauty of great books—and great hosts—they spark transformative ideas.
While not a traditional business book, this powerful read influenced my personal journey through metastatic breast cancer and shaped how I approach business and life. During our conversation, Liz and I explore the surprising overlap between surviving a health crisis and thriving as a business owner, emphasizing themes of mindset, control, and finding a strong reason to move forward.

Key Takeaways
Mindset is Everything:
Both overcoming cancer and succeeding in business require cultivating a positive mindset. Negative emotions can hinder progress, while fostering optimism and humor can dramatically shift outcomes. I shared how embracing joy—whether through laughter or positivity—helped me stay resilient and focused.
Take Control and Trust Your Intuition:
Radical Remission encourages patients to take control of their treatment journey, including exploring complementary therapies. This principle translated directly into my business journey, where I realized I could design my coaching practice on my own terms. Taking control empowered me to embrace unconventional paths in both health and business.
Have a Strong Reason to Live—and Work:
The book’s ninth pillar, having a strong reason to live, resonated deeply with me. In business, just like in life, having a purpose fuels perseverance and resilience. My desire to create a positive impact through coaching and helping female solopreneurs thrive became the driving force behind my success.
My Favorite Moment
One of my favorite moments was reflecting on how my mother taught me the importance of building genuine relationships. She had a gift for “collecting people,” a skill I’ve carried forward in my coaching work. This skill is invaluable in business—connection and authenticity create lasting relationships that fuel growth and success.
